You can Purchase the Cad files, Build pics and some video here DIGITAL STORE
Or you can get Laser cut parts
You Get, 4'X2' Sheet of cut out parts to build what you see below. The only extra wood that was bought to get to the stage below is 6pcs of 1/4"X1/4' square poplar that cost about 8 dollars. You get the whole sheet not just the cutouts so there is lots of extra wood. You also get the building jig

Big boats, With a big interest in big boats I wanted something that was big but was easy to build and setup. Most of all it would have to be fun to drive!!!! Lots of people have started to build 1/8 Scale Hydros and although I was very tempted to join in my Cracker project was underway so maybe the hydro next year.
Inspiration, Concept and Design Shots:
This plan has been adapted to Electric from Jerry Dunlap Gas Plans. The plans were found here Thanks Power Pete. I also found this site very helpful.
Here are some shots that inspired the idea

Here's some of my design shots
The files I generated were sent to the Laser cutter, Now let the build begin!!!!

What are Will Power this beast?
For the first Runs the Hull we be powered by a Dewalt 24 volt HammerDrill Motor. This motor is available from a Dewalt service center Part# 38900101000 it can also be purchased online here. It is one of the cheapest most powerful brushed motors available and is used in Robot Combat. The published numbers (although not verified by Dewalt) look good.
DeWalt Part Number 389010-00
Voltage 24vdc (can be overvolted)
Nominal Amperage 68 Amps
Nominal Torque 94.5 in-lbs Amps at stall 135 Torque at stall 19.2 in-lbs
RPMs 22,000 ungeared Output gear 19 Teeth
Weight 25.60oz or 1.600 Lbs Armature Resistance: 0.095 Ohms
Stall Current: 250 Amps Torque Constant: 1.5 ozf-in/Amp
Angular-velocity Constant 880 RPM/v
No-load Angular Velocity: 21,000 RPM
No-load Current: 2.6 Amps
Peak Power: 2 HP Peak Effeciency: 81%
Here's a short video that demonstrates the power of this BEAST
Dewalt Motor Update Feb/17/04 *Important*
The Stock plastic end bell does come with fixed timing, but it is fixed advanced for CW rotation(when looking at motor from the back, towards the endbell)
To me the price to power ratio looks good. There are however some problems that may arise. The end bell of this motor is plastic and it is set with fixed advanced timing. Since its in a boat we have almost free cooling available so the brush hoods will be water cooled. I'm not anticipating any heat problems. Performance wise I am expecting 25 mph on 24 cells and low 30's on 32cells. I expect these numbers to be conservative. There is a high temperature end bell available at the Robot Market Place which allows for better cooling and adjustable timing. It cost 60 dollars and will be my first performance upgrade.
Making good Progress
NOV/14/03
I now have ruff templates for the sides and bottom sheeting. So far the only extra wood I've bought is 2 -12X48 sheets of 1/32 aircraft ply, 1 -12X48 sheet of 1/64ply, 1 - 12X48 Sheet of 1/16ply and 6-3 foot pieces of 1/4"X1/4". Total Cost around $60. So far it has been a very easy first build. To get to the point in the pictures above was about 4 hrs total. The Included building jig is making things very easy. It also helps hold the hull in place when sanding. I am using a custom aluminum keel. It does add a little extra weight but it has made hardware setup and adjustment a breeze. Water pick up, rudder, thru hull Strut and skeg are all integral. The keel is 3/8X1/2X18"long. It weighs just under 100 grams. To save weight and cost a 1/2"X1/2" Spruce or hardwood keel could be substituted.
